Acceptable Use Policy
In general, the “Community Life Agreement” should provide sufficient guidance for acceptable computer usage: “Mature actions consistent with proper Christian behavior are expected of all students. Disciplinary action will result when student conduct is such that the University community is adversely affected” (see Appendix A of the Student Handbook).
Therefore, “proper Christian behavior” with respect to computer usage at Huntington University does not include any act that is disrespectful, humiliating, dehumanizing, threatening, harassing, or hazardous of other individuals or oneself; the use of improper gestures or improper language (i.e., profanity, racial or sexual slurs, sexual harassment); the abuse, defacing, mutilation, dismantling, tampering, borrowing, renting, leasing, or stealing any hardware, cables, or software property of Huntington University; and the illegal copying or sharing of copyrighted media files or data (commonly called “file sharing”). Any “hacking” or “cracking” (trying to access any unauthorized areas), illegal access, password or account sharing, or tampering with computer system files is strictly prohibited. Any of these actions may result is disciplinary action by Huntington University.
In keeping with these standards, we ask that students act out positive Christian behavior by being courteous, loving one’s neighbor as oneself, acting out the love of Christ, and promoting safe and secure environments at Huntington University. “With all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Philippians 4:2-3.
